On Nov 6th we took left for the city of Las Vegas! We packed up Wirbelwind and left on the journey about 5 pm.
Our first night stop was made about 1 am in Eugene, OR. We stayed in a Holiday Inn Express. Which is a pretty nice hotel. The beds were nice and even the pillows were good. Also the shower was the best of all the places we stayed for this trip. The next morning we got up and had breakfast at a small place on what appeared to be the back side of the university. I don’t know the area but I can say that we drove behind the stadium field. I would highly recommend this place. Quirky with their dish names and really good food.
From there we went to Winnemucca, NV. A rather spread out city which seemed to mostly be geared for tourist groups from out of state. More on that later, but first the drive through eastern Oregon was amazing. We went along one of the many scenic byways for a good part of the drive. It was really pretty, for nearly the whole way. We stopped in Paisley, OR for a late lunch at a diner style place ran by a couple. I’m pretty sure the wife not only was our server but also our cook. Food was pretty good there too.
Above are two photos from somewhere in Oregon. Unfortunately, we couldn’t go into the covered bridge. According to the reader boards located around it was built in 1945. They also talked about how many of the original bridges were taken away in flash floors and such. The mountain picture was taken going up this beautiful pass, it was also quite chilly. There were a couple of neat but short mountain tunnels just up from where we took this picture. We topped out at around 7000 ft!
