Adventures & ramblings

What a week!

Worse than no summer at all is… Having a fever and stuck in bed when it’s the nicest week all summer long! It’s been many years since I had a fever and honestly I didn’t know what to do about it. I don’t even notice I had one until Thursday night. I thought maybe I was just hot because the house was stuffy or for the times I got dizzy I thought maybe I just stood up too fast. I phoned the nurse hotline for my medical insurance. Luckily I didn’t have to sit on hold for a long time. She was useful, however asked a series of strange questions before even asking me what my symptoms were. Now that I think about it, I can’t recall if she asked them at all. The next day I went to the clinic, after trying to phone them for an hour after they opened getting nothing but a message saying “Our office is now closed, please try back during normal office hours.” I finally got through and booked an appointment for that morning. It wasn’t that I was worried for myself at all, I wanted to make sure that it wasn’t something really nasty I was going to pass along to Quince. According to the doctor I saw, it was just a normal virus. Naturally, whatever it was I gave to Quince. He had been throwing up after eating more quantity but honestly with so many other changes happening to him at the same time it’s hard to say that’s due to the cold.

  • No longer taking keppra, at all
  • Possibly entering a growth spurt
  • Previous week was very exhausting
  • Typically a “barfy” baby anyway

So, with all those forces together no wonder I didn’t even notice that he might have a cold on top of that. The growth spurt idea is all speculation too, all I have to go by is all he wanted to do was sleep and eat(the eating pattern having increased).

We were still able to keep our weekend plans as by Friday night both Quince and I were feeling much better! And what a day we had in Seattle on Saturday. It was amazingly nice out, one of the warmest days all summer possibly so far. Richard and RhiaRichard went to the SRS meeting, Quince and I met up with Kami and then Al, Cas and Rhia briefly. After that we visited with our friends Bob, Tricia and their son Timothy. Watching Timothy is amazing, yes he’s a baby on the cusp of toddlerdom but he has a more amazing story than Quince. In fact, it was thanks to him that Richard and I even knew what a nicu was like on the inside. Born just over a pound and able to fit in the palm of his dad’s hands, today he gives his parents a different kind of run for their money! It’s incredible to watch him get around so quickly and easily. He can walk with aid of either the cart he has or his parents but mostly chooses to crawl. No object stands in the way of this kid. On the way back from Bob and Tricia’s we stopped off at U Village to check a couple things out there. We ended up getting an awesome gift for my brother in law Ben. 😀

From there it was back to crash Kami’s babysitting of Rhia. Richard and Rhia raced each other to Alki beach while Kami and I walked leisurely in the distance pushing the stroller. Since they weren’t there I took a video of Richard and Rhia playing in the waves on the beach.  When we decided to head back to the apartment, Rhia insisted that she should push the stroller. It was really cute and the view window was just at the right spot where she could see out the front. Of course that didn’t improve her stroller driving. Once and awhile she would suddenly stop and walk in front of the stroller to talk to Quince. As things turn out, Al and Cas didn’t make their original date plans and arrived back earlier than planned. The 5 of us hung out spent the rest of the time together until late.

Next weekend we’ll be touring beautiful British Columbia to watch my cousin get married! Our real first vacation/road trip with Quince(and no, Seattle doesn’t count as a road trip in this household).
