We left Whistler in plenty of time to drive right onto the ferry. It was in fact the one before our planned one to catch. Pretty good we thought since we had to stop a couple times because Quince was too unhappy. His cries coming down the mountain seemed to be timed when Richard and my ears would pop so we figured that was his trouble. To get to the sunshine coast you take a ferry from Horseshoe Bay to Langley. From there it was about a half an hour drive to Sechelt. Kind of odd since it’s still on the mainland, but due to the inlets and deltas there’s no highway access. It’s a pretty ferry ride though.
As it turns out Sechelt and Port Angeles are rather similar in terms of how they feel as a town. Both being slightly harder to get too, on the water, small and filled with Native American/First Nations artwork. Oh, and closing down around 8 pm at night. One of the unique things about Sechelt is that next to their bus stop signs are those white plastic lawn chairs, sometimes up to three of them, for riders to sit in while they wait for the bus. I tried to get a picture of them but no luck. Our first day there Dana took us around the town and treated us for lunch at their condo. They live right on the beach and have a great view of Vancouver Island on a clear day.
Overall, it was awesome to see the work that Kevin and Jen have done in their yard. They have told us about it, and we’ve seen pictures but it’s far more impressive in person! Quince had his first actual giggle watching their dog Lucy, play on the bed. In the week before he would say “ha” or sometimes even “hee” while smiling but never an actual giggle. While Lucy playing on the bed and barking once or twice was all it took! I only had my regular camera handy so no video, and the picture doesn’t really do it justice. But it was cute. Quince was really fascinated by Lucy. I told him he was allowed to have a whippet when he can properly train it.
I’d love to go up again next year for another visit. 🙂
