A bit ago I started cleaning out the various gardens around the back yard. I waiting so long mostly to see what flowers we had from the previous owner.
A lot of progress has been made. I started in the garden right below the sunroom side window. The first photo is what it looked like when I started, mostly just grass, dead bluebell flower stocks and a green vine-ish plant. I mistook that last one for a weed, it seemed to spread in the same manner.
Regardless, they are all gone now and the area has been replanted and given some red bark mulch. Thanks to a bunch of fancy rocks I got a number of years ago I even remade the border. Honestly the only plant not doing well in that area is the calla lily. I think it’s still too sunny of a spot for it.
My next area was the raised bed were the lavender is. In the spring it had only the lavender and bluebells. Once those were finished for the season, I was able to clean them up.
Finally is the area on the other side of the walkway. I knew there were some roses in there. Frankly waiting until the grasses had mostly died off was a good idea, even if it was unintentional. It meant everything was really easy to pull up. The goal is to work my way around the side of the fence.
We were also able to get to the front of the house as well. Thus far the larger of the two sides has been cleaned out. As with the rest of the yard, it was mostly just some grass and bluebells. I haven’t yet decided what I’ll be replanting there but it does need to be mostly shade loving.
