Adventures & ramblings

Sakuracon

Once again we embarked on the journey to Seattle to spend 3 days running around the Washington State Convention Center with thousands of other “otaku” at Sakuracon. Due to my state, there was actually no running involved but extra slow walking. This was ok, until I wanted to catch up with someone to get a picture of their costume. Needless to say, I missed a lot because I didn’t catch them. On the plus side, I didn’t go into labor. An amazing thing given that they say a lot of walking and climbing stairs can sometimes start labor. Well, that was a good weekend for doing just that. We also unintentionally ate rather spicy food, I swear we asked for mild. Also, we didn’t dress up this year. An ever changing size is hard to make a costume for.

Although I hadn’t previously read up on who the guests were, I was thrilled to learn that one of them was the Japanese voice actress Kotono Mitsuishi who is known for many roles but one of her more notable being that of Usagi in Sailormoon. Yes, only hands down one of my favorites. I will freely admit, I own all the books and every dvd they have released in the US. Had I read she was attending I would have come more prepared, however I did manage to find something in the dealers room. A very unexpected moment in getting her autograph was also getting patted on the stomach. She signed the little card I brought and on looking up to thank me for coming noticed I was pregnant and had to ask and pat.

Another fun thing for the weekend, is that every year I drag Richard and Kami into the Tiffany & Co. in downtown Seattle so that I can get my rings cleaned. Truth is I do get them cleaned more than once a year, but the convention center and this branch of Tiffany’s are blocks away from each other, so there’s no reason for me to not to go. This year, the door guard remembered us. Not only did he notice that I was pregnant this year, but also remembered that in past years we’ve come in dressed up and this year weren’t. It was kind of cool actually.

We ran into Matt, who we met a few years ago there, as usual he was checking out things in the dealers room. 🙂 Amber and her friends; although we live in the same town we never manage to run into each other. At Sakuracon however, sometimes we see each other a few times. And lastly we hung out with Andrea, Jayna, and Jayna’s roommate(I’m sorry I forgot your name, I’m really horrible with them).

The very last day we attended the Charity auction. It’s something Richard and I started going too some time ago, although we rarely bid(or win what we bid on), we enjoy being general attendees for it. This year we did walk away with a signed promo poster from the group Berryz Kobo. This was neat, the group only did one signing session and it was limited. We missed their concert as we were attending the AMV movie contest, a favorite of Kami and I.
