Hurricane Ridge drive

On Sunday, June 14th, we packed a lunch and piled into Wirbelwind to join up with Salish Sea Motoring Club on their drive up to Hurricane Ridge.

Honestly, I didn’t know this club existed. They are based in Olympia, WA. Here’s their info: Salish Sea Motoring Club and the about us, which I stole from their website.

  •  Established in 2010, the club’s vision is to provide MINI owners in the Salish Sea area with opportunities to meet other MINI owners and provide activities centered on enjoying and driving our MINIs. These activities include technical sessions to learn about your MINI, meet-ups, drives and tours, exploring places off the beaten track, and exploring the great twisty roads of the Pacific Northwest… and beyond.

Check them out if you are in that area! The ones who attended the drive were a fun group. We would definitely do another drive with them should the chance come up again.

Enough chatter, on to the motoring! I was contacted by Ron following a post I had made on the LXM Facebook page. He introduced himself and said his club was doing a drive up to Hurricane Ridge and asked if I would like to join. Hell yeah I would! We were going to be home, so what better way to spend a sunny Sunday then driving with a bunch of other MINIs.

We met up with them at the Eastside Safeway, then continued into town and up to the ridge together.

Being such a nice day was there a slight wait at the entrance to the park, after we all got through it was clear driving- both in terms of weather and traffic!

Once we got to the top the bulk of us headed to the picnic area on the west side of the ridge visitor center. Growing up the road down there has been closed at various times for many different reasons. For is it was neat to have it open, Richard and I were having a hard time remembering the last time either of us had been over there.

After lunch everyone parted ways. Jennifer and her visiting niece were headed to Ruby Beach. We decided to caravan with them. It had been a year since Quince and Richard were there but far longer for me.

WOW! We could not ask for a more awesome day to be out there.  Light wind, which wasn’t in the water and fog in the very distance.

Quince convinced me to take off my shoes and run around in the sand. It felt so good. The sand was warm but the water was cool, not in a shocking way but pleasant.
