Last night I spent some time looking up the day’s events of the comic con schedule only to discover that we really could do both my niece’s birthday party and parts of the convention.
The day started off with getting up a little too early, and it wasn’t even Quince’s fault this time. In fact it was a result of one of Kami’s cats. I can’t fault this start too much as it allowed me to enough time to run up to Capital Hill for my favorite mocha pit-stop, Caffe Vita. Ooh, it was everything I knew it would be! All I can say is yum! After that it was off to the con! My goal for the day, Sir Patrick Stewart’s autograph. Yes I considered doing the photo op, but I was worried that would cause Quince and I to be really late for the party.
Anyway, after getting lost on the way to the Celebrity section, we joined the queue. Since it was so early in the morning I was surprised that the line was already rather long and hoped I would make it. Once he arrived it moved rather quickly, woot! I have to say when my turn came up I dutifully handed over my money and let Q hand over the photo we picked up. Yes I know, there are items I had at home but I didn’t think to bring any of them. I couldn’t really say anything except hi. This is a guy I grew up watching, I thought he was cool then and still think he’s cool now, I was totally speechless. Quince made a dive for items on the table, which really got everyone’s attention. He shook Sir Patrick’s hand in a play to get something. It would have made a great keepsake photo for us had they allowed pictures. While there Kami and I weren’t sure if he was going for the cell phone, many colored sharpies, paper or pair of glasses. Quince was given the sharpie. We were told it was a pleasure, said our goodbye, thank you’s and Quince waved. Once we stopped moving Quince wanted to draw on the picture too and kept trying to get the cap off the marker. In hindsight, I’m pretty sure that’s what he was going for on the table as well. He does likes it when people draw with him.
I also took a picture with my phone of Quince playing with Astronaut Clay Anderson, who is hanging out in the kids section. While we were near that area, someone asked to take some video of Q so I said sure. Maybe it will turn up somewhere. They didn’t take our names so I’m guessing it will go into a general con mash-up.
I wanted to attend ECCC when I learned who was all coming this year. I’m so glad I was still able to get tickets and have had a wonderful time thus far.
*Edit* Since I originally wrote this I’ve added a couple photos. Most were taken from my phone. Regarding photo ops of the con: I thought it was like autographs and first come, first serve. Now I know for next time and knowing is half the battle.
