The 2015 Festival parade kicked off with overcast weather and a light breeze.
80 Years & Still Blooming is this year’s theme. They were doing everything to show the long tradition of the festival, as well as how alive and well it is today. I would say they did a nice job. Their royalty was excited! A lot of the floats and decorations seemed to be well thought out.
A number of years ago Richard and I attended this with Quince, but he wasn’t very interested and was scared of most of the loud noises. This year it was the bands, fire trucks, police cars and vans were the most cool for him. We picked a spot towards the end of the route, not too crowed at all. Normally a pretty nice spot just outside and above downtown, however it wasn’t the best parade route spot. We were right before the judges and thus many of the preforming groups were observing a short rest as they went by us before starting up again to play as they walked past the judging booth.
We had a lot of fun and it was a nice chance to see Port Townsend.
